Our body image is our thoughts and attitudes towards the body we live in, which can have profound implications for our physical and mental health, confidence and self-esteem. It can impact diverse aspects of our lives including education, career, relationships, health, resilience, parenting and life satisfaction.
Body image is shaped not just by what we look like, but through the learned filters of societal beauty standards, media messages and popular culture, which tend to erode body confidence and create an unrealistic view of what humans should look like.
This engaging and practical course explores the issues surrounding personal body image and how it is formed and maintained, along with the dangers of poor body image and associated distress and ill health.
However, the key focus is on exploring practical tools to help prevent or undo harms associated with negative body image and replace these with more realistic and healthier perspectives.
This course welcomes everyone with an interest in healthier body image, including health workers, youth workers, parents, educators and those interested in exploring their own body image.
