Strengths-Based Practice

Capability and resilience

Strengths-based practice focuses on building a person’s strengths and aptitudes, rather than working on their problems. This course develops strengths-based practitioners’ skills, as well as providing foundation knowledge for those new to this approach.

Course Detail

Popular for its effectiveness, capacity to enhance relationships and ability to achieve meaningful outcomes, strengths-based practice has its foundations in social work.

Where traditional approaches work on an individual’s problems and disadvantages, strengths-based approaches focus on building personal strengths and aptitudes.

Rather than aiming to address a perceived deficit, or correct clients’ deficiencies, strengths-based practitioners see clients as capable and resilient. They can then support a client’s preferences and abilities to achieve their self-determined goals.

This course will develop the skills of current strengths-based practitioners, along with providing foundation knowledge for those new to this approach. It also provides specific skills and templates for use with clients.
